Product Overview

Lightweight Insulating Mortar for Thermal Bridge-Free Walls

INSU-MORTAR is a pre-mixed thermal and sound insulation mortar — designed as a companion product to INSUBLOCK — composed of pretreated EPS beads, aggregates, geopolymers, unique additives and Portland cement. It acts as the “missing link” in an insulated wall system by ensuring the joints between blocks do not become paths for heat transfer.

At 1000 kg/m³, INSUMORTAR is approximately 50% lighter than standard mortar. It is easy to mix, apply and tool — behaving exactly like standard masonry mortar while providing far superior thermal performance. Factory-mixed bags eliminate inconsistency, reduce waste, and come in pre-calculated 40 kg packs backed by a 20-year warranty.

Recommended for: Thermal insulation binding mortar for connecting masonry blocks in both internal and external walls — for all INSUBLOCK walling systems in residential, commercial and industrial structures in Oman.

Why Choose INSUMORTAR

Key Benefits

Thermal Continuity

Prevents heat leakage through mortar joints, maintaining the efficiency of the entire wall system. U-Value of just 0.42 W/m²K for a 20 cm wall.

Ultra-Lightweight

At 1000 kg/m³, INSUMORTAR is approximately 50% lighter than standard mortar, reducing the overall dead load on structures and foundations.

Acoustic Insulation

Contributes to the reduction of sound transmission, complementing INSUBLOCK's acoustic performance for a more peaceful living and working environment.

Breathable & Rot-Proof

Acts as a breathable layer that resists high humidity and is almost entirely rot-proof, protecting wall joints long-term.

Designed for INSUBLOCK

Workability, open time and bedding thickness are optimised for INSUBLOCK masonry — same thixotropic behaviour as standard mortar for excellent workability.

Zero Waste & Guaranteed Quality

Factory-mixed in pre-calculated 40 kg bags. Reduces material loss and preparation time while ensuring consistent performance with no human mixing error.

20-Year Warranty

Long-term assurance for thermal insulation performance — backed by MCP's commitment to quality and sustainable construction.

Application

How to Apply

1
Prepare the Substrate

Ensure block courses and the work surface are clean and free from dust or loose material. Use clean water for mixing.

2
Mix INSUMORTAR

Add the bag contents to clean water and mix with a paddle mixer to a smooth, consistent mortar. Follow the water:powder ratio stated in the TDS.

3
Apply to Block Bed Face

Spread INSUMORTAR evenly onto the bed face of the block to a thickness of 10–15 mm. Apply to both bed and perpendicular joints for full thermal continuity.

4
Lay Block & Align

Set the next block firmly into position and tap to achieve the required joint thickness. Check for level and alignment continuously as you proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions

INSUMORTAR is a lightweight insulating bedding mortar used to lay INSUBLOCK masonry. It bridges the thermal performance gap at block joints, eliminating cold bridges that would otherwise compromise overall wall insulation.
You can, but standard cement mortar has a thermal conductivity of around 0.7–1.0 W/mK — approximately 7× higher than INSUBLOCK. This creates significant thermal bridges at every joint. INSUMORTAR is the recommended bedding mortar to maintain thermal continuity.
The recommended joint thickness is 10–15 mm. This provides adequate structural bonding while keeping the thermal bridge path as thin as possible.
Yes. INSUMORTAR is formulated for both interior and exterior masonry applications. For exposed external walls, apply a suitable renders or cladding system over the completed brickwork as normal.
